Throughout the year, Groundspeak, the company that created geocaching, releases special digital souvenirs that geocachers can earn, usually by finding a geocache. There are specific dates, such as New Year's Day, New Year's Eve, and International Geocaching Day, that offer a souvenir every year.
There are special days, like leap days (February 29). In 2020, there was Palindrome Day (02/02/2020: February 2, 2020) and in 2022, there was Twos-Day (22/02/2022: February 22, 2022).
In previous years, there were at least two digital souvenir promotions that took much longer than a day to complete. In summer 2017, you had to find enough geocaches to earn all the pieces of the pirate map. In summer 2019, you had to find geocaches in order to accumulate the clues to solve the gem heist.
Due to the global pandemic, the souvenir promotion deadlines were extended. From August 2020 to February 2021, you found geocaches in order to earn virtual stamps in your Wonders of the World passport. Starting in August 2021 and ending in February 2022, geocache finds earned you points that simulated elevation so you could "Reach the peak" of the highest mountains on each of the 7 continents.
This year's souvenir promotion, Signal's Labyrinth, runs for an entire year. Started in April and continuing until April 2023, you help Signal the Frog, the geocaching mascot, escape six different labyrinths by finding geocaches to earn enough points.
While I love the feeling of accomplishment when I earn the souvenirs, I also enjoy the artwork. Each souvenir is fun and unique.
