If you've visited our website lately you'll likely have noticed we keep talking about this new thing, cloudLibrary.
So what is it?
It's two things really. One, it's our new online digital collection. Over the past month, our entire e-book and e-audiobook collection has migrated from the Simcoe County Co-operative on OverDrive, and accessed on devices through Libby, to cloudLibrary's platform. Two, it's also an app that can be used to browse this collection and also doubles as an e-book reader and e-audiobook player.

What does this mean for you?
The cloudLibrary collection is linked with libraries across the province, so there is a lot more available for you to access; it also means that wait times for holds aren't as long as there are more digital "copies" available to check out. The borrowing privilege is still three weeks, and with auto-return you'll never have an overdue item. Checkouts are limited to ten at a time, and holds are also limited to ten at a time. There is a browse function that lets you streamline what you're looking at and filters to narrow down those search results. And, my favourite feature, you can view only items that are available right now -- no waiting, no fuss.
All you need to get started with the app is a tablet or smartphone, your Essa Public Library card, your pin/password, and an active WiFi connection. You'll only need to sign in once, and once an item download is complete you don't need WiFi to access it. cloudLibrary is available for a wide range of platforms; Apple, Windows, Android, Fire, Nook, and Chrome devices.
If you prefer to use an e-reader, like a Kobo, you'll need a laptop or desktop computer and the free program Adobe Digital Editions to transfer to the device. If you need assistance getting started with this new platform, give us a call and library staff can assist you over the phone, through email, and in person. We can book a one-on-one appointment with you. cloudLibrary also has a support page with instructional videos to help you with any issues you might experience. Click this link to visit that webpage.
Happy reading!
