Book Shelfie

Updated: Oct 27, 2020

There is nothing better than a personal home library -- big or small! We'd love to see your book shelves. Send us your photos and we'll share them here. Photos can be sent to Dawn or Victoria. Tell us what feature you love the most about your shelves.

Favourite parts of the shelfie: A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. Pierce Brown's Dark Age is my current read.

This book shelf holds books written by George Carlin and Billy Crystal (who make me laugh); John Denver and James Taylor (whose songs I dream to); and books about Alaska (where my heart belongs). Didn't plan it that way...it's just where they live.

Two very Tiny Tomes. They can hold their own among the big books they share the shelf with.

A shelf of books-about-books and personal favourites. The whole shelf is my favourite part!

"That's the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet" – Jhumpa Lahiri

My favourite part of my bookshelves is that they hold so many things I love: books, photographs, souvenirs, art, and of course kitties. In the past I have organized my books by height, by colour, and even in order of how I liked a book and how soon I want to read a book. But I have decided what works best for me is to organize my books by author's last name so I am able to quickly find the book I'm looking for. I suppose that's not too surprising considering where I work!

I like to have books in as many rooms of the house as possible: the entryway, dining room, kitchen, living room, laundry room, and so forth. Still, there is a main bookshelf (shown above).

As much as I love my personal area of the shelf (most of the top right side and the two bottom rows pictured), my favorite book-stash is in my bedroom (below). Every time I finish reading a chapter book to the children, I place it in this train of honour (unless it was a library book, which is very often the case).

It is such a joy to see at a glance many of the things we have read together.

Our house has books in numerous book shelves.

Picture 1

My picture book collection. I've always been a reader of picture books. Scaredy squirrel, books about libraries and Sandra Boynton's board books as well as a large Robert Munsch collection are nestled together on this shelf.

Pictures 2 & 3

These are books that I 've read and love so much I don't want to get rid of. L.M. Montgomery, Anne McCaffery, Robert Sawyer and Terry Fallis. A lot of them are autographed. Picture 4

I gave my hubbie this basket to corral the books he has on the go. He wasn't a big reader until he retired. Then I got him hooked on Clive Cussler. He's got a long way to go to read them all. Picture 5

Non fiction about History
