March 25th, 2022 marks the 19th Tolkien Reading Day. Organized by the Tolkien Society, it's a day to celebrate all things Tolkien. Why was March 25th selected? After all, it isn't Tolkien's birthday. Well, that is the day the ring of power was destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom.
The Tolkien Society is an educational charity, literary society, and international fan club devoted to promoting the life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Throughout the year, they host a variety of events, virtual and now some in-person. Tolkien was a fan of the society himself and presided as their president, and his daughter Priscilla served as vice president for a time. Although based in the United Kingdom, fans from across the globe are welcome to join. There are also Smials, or Branches, across the world, including three in Canada.
To celebrate Tolkien Reading Day 2022, enjoy some of his works. Check out our catalogue to see what Tolkien books we have available here.
Some of J.R.R.Tolkien's books have also been made into two trilogies. The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. There has also been several biographies and reference books written about the life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien; find those in our collection here.
